Director, Cyber & Tech E&O Product Line Leader

The primary purpose of this position is to lead and implement the strategic vision and plan of Markel’s Cyber and Tech E&O product lines. Provide leadership, direction and support to underwriting teams. Is responsible for product profitability, growth and retention of new and renewal business that is consistent with underwriting strategies. Manage assigned product lines to achieve profit, revenue, loss ratio, and expense targets. Ensure effective execution of best practices. Provide coaching and training for underwriting staff. Develop and maintain relationships with internal resources (Actuarial, Product Development, Claim, IT, Operations, Regulatory, etc.) to coordinate services to customers and ensure that superior products are being delivered to our internal and external customers. The primary focus of this role is working with the Sr. Director, Cyber/Technology E&O, in the underwriting governance and continued development of the Cyber/Technology E&O product line.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the continued product development, strategy and portfolio management of the Cyber/Technology Liability suite of products
  • Manage and handle account referrals from the Cyber/Technology underwriters
  • Assist underwriters in negotiations with brokers on program structure, premiums, retentions, and terms and conditions
  • Assist with product development, language and endorsement drafting and maintenance
  • Responsible for account auditing and compliance
  • Work with Cyber/Technology Senior Director to achieve financial goals and metrics for the product line
  • Champions underwriting optimization
  • Acts a knowledge expert on industry trends and helps facilitate comprehensive, relevant and effective underwriter training
  • Work with Claims, Product Regulatory Services and Actuarial as needed
  • Attendance in marketing visits and/or broker meetings or events

Qualifications, Education and/or Experience

  • A minimum of eight plus years’ experience in underwriting, claims and/or brokering in Cyber/Technology Liability or Professional Liability; recent managerial experience a plus
  • Four‑year degree in business or related field from an accredited University/College, or equivalent related years of work experience
  • Strong customer service focus and interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively, and excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and excellent problem‑solving/decision‑making abilities
  • Solid understanding of cyber security protocols, industry specific emerging risks, and regulatory landscape
  • Must be a team player and work independently as needed
  • High energy, ability to deliver exceptional written and verbal presentations, both internally and externally
  • 25% travel required
  • Strong work ethic and sense of urgency
  • Ability to work in a Markel office or Hybrid model as required

Pay Information

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job‑relevant education, job‑relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary range for the Director position is $162,800 - $223,850/year with a 55% incentive.
