Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The
Public Affairs Specialist
provides support in the development and direction of H-E-B's Public Affairs strategies and corporate image initiatives within the greater
Dallas
region.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Coordinates and delivers internal and external Regional Public Affairs programs and events.
Recruits, trains, and supervises Partners for volunteer activities and manages recognition programs for Partner volunteer activities.
Creates and develops regional H-E-B public affairs materials.
Provides creative input into the development of the region's overall public affairs goals.
Represents H-E-B at key functions and events, serving on internal and external task forces and/or committees as needed.
Serves as company spokesperson to the news media within defined parameters.
Maintains good relationships in the community including both public and private sectors and non-profit organizations.
Plans and conducts special events and signature community programs including planning, logistics, and measurements of success to meet stated objectives.
Defines resource needs according to budgets and develops action plans for programs and events.
Manages third-party vendor and contractor relationships.

Majority of work efforts are focused on supporting implementation or delivery of processes, programs, and/or policies and are not typically difficult or complex.
Learns how to develop internal working relationships.
Work Experience:
0+ years No previous professional experience required. - Required
Practical public affairs experience in one or more support roles: governmental, non-profit, community relations, media relations or public relations a plus - Required
Experience in news media - Preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of community - Required
Advanced PC skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook) and software and web-based programs / apps required by the job - Required
Communication and presentation skills - Required
Interpersonal skills - Required
Ability to manage conflict and resolve complaints - Required
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks - Required
Attention to detail - Required
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Affairs or related ORr role-relevant experience in lieu of a degree - Required
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
Function in a fast-paced, office environment
Travel by car or plane with overnight stays
Work extended hours; sit for extended periods.
Occasionally lift 20 lbs or more - setting up and tearing down events
