Sr Director - Software Development (Platform Engineering and Modernization)

What you’ll be doing

As the Sr. Director, Software Development, you will lead all aspects of application development toward meeting the North Star Architecture for Verizon’s Value brands. You will build the next generation of Value core platforms (experience services, product catalog, martech platforms, and third‑party integrations) to deliver brand‑agnostic capabilities and modernize the Value technology ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team in large‑scale business and technology transformation, modernization and platform consolidation.
  • Lead highly successful program implementation, team engagement and continuous improvement; create a culture of transparency and communication throughout the organization.
  • Drive key strategic initiatives for the organization, working as a team leader with delivery leaders, project managers and cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with vendors to ensure contract compliance and service delivery.
  • Define and implement the enterprise capability roadmap in alignment with overall business strategy and objectives, and develop/execute technology investments to deliver those capabilities and enable the platform for future growth and scaling.
  • Develop and deploy stakeholder engagement plans to shift technology including digital adoption and artificial intelligence as well as behavior and process changes to achieve project and organizational objectives.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with executive sponsors, key stakeholders, business owners, and IT leaders to ensure the most impactful business outcomes are prioritized and operationalized.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams to deliver programs on‑time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop technology strategies aligned with the organization’s digital and AI transformation goals.
  • Assess existing technology infrastructure, identifying opportunities for improvement within a decentralized company structure.

Where you’ll be working

This hybrid role will have a defined work location and include work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ten or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in large services organizations designing and leading enterprise‑wide technology enablement and change management.
  • Experience as a technology leader delivering large‑scale enterprise technology transformation programs, including re‑architecting the business layer and building the next generation of services, product catalog and integration of third‑party vendor services.
  • Ability to define, own, and execute the long‑term technical roadmap for critical BSS platforms.
  • Proficiency in architecting scalable and secure technology solutions.
  • Experience leading end‑to‑end software development and deployment of major commercial initiatives that drive significant service revenue.
  • Experience in successfully migrating legacy capabilities and ensuring the architecture supports future business agility and scalability.
  • Success in championing the adoption of cutting‑edge development practices and tools, including GenAI‑based developer productivity solutions, to accelerate program delivery and enhance team effectiveness.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Strong leadership qualities with a proven track record of leading and motivating geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experience designing and delivering a cloud‑native domain‑driven architecture.
  • Experience with TMForum and ODA.
  • Experience with React, NodeJS, Spring Boot, Cassandra, PEGA, and martech platforms.
  • Ability to continually improve services while adapting to changing business needs.
  • Ability to direct, motivate and empower others to work toward the organization’s goals.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to elevate strategic contributions by defining clear, measurable, business‑centric outcomes and detailed execution plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to tackle technology challenges in a decentralized legacy environment.

The annual salary range for this position, based on a full‑time schedule, is $176,500.00 – $339,000.00. Compensation may include incentive pay and will adjust for part‑time roles.
