Position Announcement


The College of the Arts at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, is seeking an enthusiastic and well‑qualified individual to serve as the Managing Director for Utah Tech Creative Studios (UTCS). The selected applicant will manage the overall direction and daily operations of UTCS, supervise staff, and collaborate with faculty who constitute UTCS’s production areas. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach up to 6 credits each semester in either Digital Film, Animation, or Digital Media. This is a 12‑month, full‑time exempt staff appointment.


Utah Tech Creative Studios (UTCS) is a dynamic, innovative university center that works with community clients in Washington County and surrounding areas to produce digital film, animation, and social media content. UTCS involves Utah Tech students in the various productions contracted within UTCS, giving them real‑world experience and paid work. The Managing Director will develop and manage client relations, craft and oversee contracts, and work with faculty and staff in the affiliated programs to develop crews and content creators. The Managing Director will also manage the production of several live production events within Academic Affairs such as commencement, pinning ceremonies, and academic convocation. The Managing Director will supervise three full‑time staff members and work closely with a three‑person advisory board to focus on project development, budget oversight, and overall direction of UTCS.


Responsibilities



  • Provide strategic leadership and manage the overall direction and daily operations of Utah Tech Creative Studios (UTCS).

  • Supervise and support full‑time UTCS staff.

  • Collaborate with faculty in Digital Film, Animation, and Digital Media to support production activities and student engagement.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain relationships with community and university clients.

  • Negotiate, draft, and oversee contracts for UTCS projects and services.

  • Oversee production of digital film, animation, and digital media projects for internal and external clients.

  • Manage and produce live university events associated with Academic Affairs, including commencement, pinning ceremonies, and academic convocation.

  • Coordinate student involvement in UTCS projects, providing real‑world, paid professional production experience.

  • Work closely with a faculty advisory board to guide project development, budget oversight, and overall strategic direction.

  • Manage budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Recruit, train, and oversee production crews and content creators in collaboration with affiliated academic programs.


Teaching Responsibilities



  • Teach up to six (6) credits of classroom instruction per semester (regular classes and/or laboratory components of production courses).

  • Demonstrate strong skills in working with students, classroom management, and effective pedagogies.

  • Hold office hours, submit grades per University deadlines, use the Canvas courseware management system, and conduct required course evaluations.

  • Collaborate with faculty in their particular program to develop curriculum, schedule, and monitor equipment use, and work to improve the student experience and the students’ progress toward graduation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications



  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in either film production, digital film, media production, digital animation, or a closely affiliated area such as Communication or Advertising.

  • Significant professional production experience in either digital film (long‑form film production), 3‑D animation/VFX/CGI, social media content production, broadcast studio production, or field video production.

  • Professional experience as a producer (line producer, show runner, or live video production producer).

  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff or crew.

  • Experience managing budgets.

  • Ability to align area of specialization with an affiliated academic program (Digital Film, Animation, or Digital Media).

  • Evidence of successful professional interactions with potential or contracted internal and external clients.

  • Effective stewardship of projects to completion.


Compensation and Benefits


Full‑time overtime‑exempt staff position. Annual salary of $70,000 with a desired start date of July 1, 2026.
