Senior Media Relations Officer. Job in Hanover Move Collective Jobs

Broughton Group, Hanover, NH, USA

Pay: 60.000 - 80.000

Job type: Full Time

Position Purpose
As Dartmouth's national profile has grown under President Beilock's leadership, the volume of media inquiries—particularly around high-visibility institutional priorities such as dialogue and free expression, AI, mental health and well-being, and government relations—has outpaced the capacity of the current media relations team. This role will manage day-to-day media intake, serve as a spokesperson, and provide critical issues management support, enabling the Director of Media Relations to focus on strategy, thought leadership support for the president, and team leadership. It will also add capacity for advancing faculty research in the media—work currently handled by only two people for the entire university. This is a permanent shift in the scope and intensity of media engagement required to support Dartmouth's institutional priorities.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.

5 or more years of experience in media relations, communications, or a related field.

Experience in issues management, crisis communications, or high‑stakes media environments.

Experience drafting communications materials for senior leadership review.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft press materials, statements, talking points, and FAQs under tight deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to process information quickly to produce accurate and timely communications.

Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with journalists and serve as an organizational representative or spokesperson.

Strong news judgment and the ability to anticipate and assess reputational risks and opportunities.

Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex or sensitive situations and recommend strategic communications responses.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment, including during crisis or emergency situations.

High degree of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential or sensitive information.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across teams and a complex organization to achieve shared goals.

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain systems and processes that support team operations.
