KTTC in Rochester, Minnesota, is looking for a true sports journalist to join our award-winning team and share stories of athletes from southeast Minnesota and northern Iowa. For more than 70 years, KTTC has covered sports at every level. Our cameras were there at the first major league game played in Iowa at the Field of Dreams, covering the Vikings, and are in the gyms and on the fields across our viewing area each week, highlighting high school athletes.
You're joining a team of exceptional journalists who are committed to our community and work to make it better, both on and off camera.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Researching and creating daily content for television, social, and web platforms, including dynamic live shots and packages
Identifying and enterprising relevant local feature stories
Meeting daily and weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Taking an active role in seasonal KTTC productions
Creating and facilitating working relationships with the local sports community
Developing feature franchise content, which may require travel and time outside of a standard workday
Must be well-versed in the rules and terminology used in high school sports
Qualifications/Requirements:
KTTC Sports produces award-winning segments and content each year. We profile outstanding high school athletes each week in Athlete of the Week. To kick off the high school football season, we produce a one-hour show called Prep Preview, highlighting dozens of teams across the area. During the football season, KTTC hosts a weekly show called Prep Rally, a show that features interviews with the teams in the biggest matchup that week and other stories surrounding southeast Minnesota football. Rochester and the surrounding communities are a golf-lovers' haven. In the summer, we profile the best spots for golf in Par for the Course. During the fall and winter high school sports seasons, KTTC expands its sports coverage each Friday at 10 pm in Sports EXTRA. This position will require out-of-the-box thinking. Viewers aren't tuning in for just highlights and scores anymore. They want context and depth on the stories they see on their phones and social media. Candidates should also exhibit a good work ethic, strong people skills, the ability to be a team player, and work flexibly. This position may require holiday work.
