Position Summary
Associate Editor – 24/7 news cycle for BIN (Black Information Network). Requires flexibility for weekend and off‑hour shifts, high autonomy, and collaboration across newsroom teams.

What You'll Do

Write, edit, and publish a high volume of news and culture content daily, from breaking stories to reported features.

Edit copy quickly and cleanly, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and strong headlines under tight deadlines.

Collaborate closely with editorial, audio, and social teams to ensure cohesive, timely coverage across platforms.

Identify emerging stories and angles relevant to Black audiences and elevate them with context.

Package stories with compelling headlines, visuals, and captions optimized for web and social distribution.

Publish and promote your own work across BIN’s social platforms, following best practices for each channel.

Participate in real‑time coverage during breaking news moments, coordinating closely with teammates.

Apply SEO and tagging best practices to improve discoverability without sacrificing voice or integrity.

Monitor performance and audience response to help inform coverage and editorial decisions.

What You'll Need

A strong writer and editor with sound editorial judgment.

Reliable, responsive, and able to follow through on assignments and deadlines.

Professionalism, accountability, and strong communication skills in collaborative newsroom environments.

Ability to receive feedback, adapt quickly, and work constructively under deadline pressure.

Experience & Qualifications

1–3 years of experience in digital journalism, web producing, or content creation.

Proven experience writing and editing online content, including articles, headlines, and social copy.

Familiarity with CMS publishing tools and basic image editing (Photoshop or similar).

Working knowledge of SEO, tagging, and content optimization best practices.

Experience publishing or promoting content on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X, and emerging networks.

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field preferred, but not required with strong experience.

Compensation
Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job‑related qualifications, and alignment with market data. $19.23 - $24.04 per hour.
