Position Summary
WBZ NewsRadio is seeking a highly motivated and skilled News Writer and Producer for weekend and holiday mornings.

Job Responsibilities

Gather and produce weekend morning newscasts with fresh sound and news content.

Write creative and relevant on-air news copy under continual rolling deadlines.

Establish relationships with listeners by providing news coverage to a targeted demographic audience.

Interview newsmakers, select short soundbytes, and write around them for broadcast.

Adhere to all guidelines, policies and procedures of the station, iHeartMedia, the FCC and all other federal, state and local laws, including policies regarding indecency and obscenity.

Communicate clearly with editors and other newsroom staff.

Update social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, etc.

Participate in required station Programming, Promotions, and Sales staff meetings and events.

Verify facts and produce news content.

Edit actualities for broadcast.

Qualifications

3+ years of previous newsroom experience.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and social networking.

Proficiency in media production and broadcast systems; familiarity with NexGen, Adobe Audition, NewsBoss a plus.

Strong knowledge of all FCC rules and regulations.

Socially informed and perceptive; up-to-date with local and national trends and/or specialized knowledge of topics/events related to current events
ews.

Audio editing skills and proficiency with Adobe Audition.

Proficiency in writing news copy, fact checking and research; ability to work well under breaking news and deadline pressure.

Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills; proficient in grammar.

Demonstrated creativity and imagination.

Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations and personalities.

Can work well in a team environment; collaborative.

Ability to adapt to changes in schedules and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines.

4-year college degree, preferably in Communications or Broadcast Journalism.

Desirable Attributes

Ability to work early mornings on weekends and holidays.

Respect for others and a strong belief that others should do this in return.

Ability to work within prescribed guidelines without needing close supervision.

Problem solving skills within established procedures.

Understanding of when to seek guidance for unforeseen problems.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to act in a professional manner and collaborate with colleagues of different levels.

Audio editing experience.

Solid news judgement.

Compensation
Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and alignment with market data.

$17.66 - $22.08 hourly.
