Title: Business Development Manager
The Role
The Business Development Manager objective is to own and grow referral relationships for the assigned practices. This is a field-based, individual contributor role focused on driving sustained referral volume through consistent relationship-building, education, and follow-through. This role emphasizes consistent, quality outreach and referral relationship development over time. Performance is assessed through qualitative engagement and compliance-driven activity tracking. Success is measured by the health, consistency, and growth of referral relationships over time. The BDM works closely with admissions, clinical leaders, and operations to ensure referral partners experience the practice as responsive, reliable, and easy to work with. This role requires a strong working knowledge of mental health, substance use, and eating disorders to effectively engage and support referral partners.
Responsibilities
Referral Growth & Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with referral sources including:
Physicians and psychiatric providers
Therapists and counseling practices
Schools/universities/employers
Hospitals, EDs, PHP/IOP programs
Community and local business organizations
Serve as referral partner contact for assigned practices
Drive sustained referral volume through consistent outreach and relationship stewardship
Convert new referral sources into active, ongoing partners
Field-Based Outreach & Education
Conduct in-person visits, drop-ins, presentations, attend conferences and lunch-&learns
Educate providers and staff on the practices’ services, referral process, and access points
Attend and represent assigned practices at local community events and professional meetings
Identify and address barriers to referral success in real time
Contribute relevant content to marketing team for social media initiatives
Referral Process & Collaboration
Work closely with admissions and clinical teams to ensure smooth referral handoffs
Reinforce best practices with our providers such as thank-you notes and patient progress updates following HIPAA guidelines.
Share feedback from referral partners to improve workflows and communication
Ensure referral partners experience consistent communication, responsiveness, and support
CRM & Accountability
Log all outreach, meetings, and relationship activity accurately in Beacon’s CRM
Maintain accurate referral source segmentation (Prospect, Grow, Protect)
Track activity, follow-ups, and referral trends within your territory
Use data to prioritize outreach, report impact and identify growth opportunities
CRM activity is monitored for transparency, relationship health, and operational planning—not tied to individual performance incentives related to patient admissions.
How Success Is Measured
Sustained and consistent referral volume trends
Increase in active and repeat referral partners within territory
Quality and frequency of referral source engagement
CRM data completeness, timeliness and accuracy
Feedback from admissions, clinical teams, and referral partners
