Technical Writer Intern
Quanex is looking for a Technical Writer Intern to join our team located in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. The Technical Writer Intern will support documentation, process standardization, and communication efforts within our manufacturing operations. This role will work closely with engineering, production, quality, maintenance, and safety teams to create and maintain clear, accurate, and user‑friendly technical documentation for plant operations.

Responsibilities

Create, edit, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Create, edit, and maintain work instructions.
Create, edit, and maintain equipment manuals.
Create, edit, and maintain safety documentation.
Create, edit, and maintain training materials.
Create, edit, and maintain process flow diagrams and visual aids.
Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, operators, and quality personnel to gather technical information.
Observe manufacturing processes on the production floor to accurately document procedures and workflows.
Convert complex technical information into clear and concise instructions for plant personnel.
Update existing documents to reflect process, equipment, or compliance changes.
Assist with document control and revision tracking.
Support continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives through improved documentation and process clarity.
Qualifications

Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, Communications, or a related field.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to understand and communicate technical concepts clearly.
Comfortable working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
The hourly wage for this position is $20 per hour.
