Overview

Office/Unit/Project Description: The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for positioning UNDP as a leading global development agency and promoting its authority and thought leadership on sustainable development, poverty, inequality, and climate change. BERA builds strategic relationships and alliances and coordinates corporate standards across partnerships, marketing, and communications, including internal communications. The Digital Communications Studio within BERA develops and manages UNDP’s global online presence, creates public-facing content, leads on social networks and digital engagement, and supports digital transformation initiatives.
Role: Web and Social Media Editor (French) in the Digital Communications Studio, supervised by the Web Copywriting Specialist.
Scope of Work

Manage UNDP’s global social media channels (Twitter and Facebook) in French

Determine goals for reach and engagement with a French-speaking audience in collaboration with the Social Media Specialist.
Plan and implement social media strategies for global projects and campaigns.
Evaluate effectiveness of French social media platforms through reporting and analytics.

Create, edit and produce content in French for the global public website and other digital platforms

Collaborate with the Web Copywriting Specialist and focal points at headquarters and regional offices to curate French content according to editorial calendars.
Review and edit web stories, headlines, video scripts, captions, etc., ensuring language consistency across languages.
Translate or review translations from English to French and adjust for optimal web presentation.
Work with production, UX, graphic designers, and video/photo editors to select visual assets for multimedia stories.
Publish content on the French global website using the corporate digital experience platform (Drupal/Acquia).

Conduct maintenance and quality assurance of the corporate website

Monitor the French corporate website and digital platforms for outdated information and usability issues.
Correct errors and implement upgrades in collaboration with the production team.
Suggest frontend and backend UX improvements and coordinate with the digital team to implement updates.
Curate the French homepage to align with corporate communications priorities.

Facilitate knowledge sharing

Identify, synthesize, and document best practices and lessons learned from the project and implementing partners.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and UNDP’s digital communications ecosystem.
Institutional Arrangement

The Web and Social Media Editor (French) will work under the direct supervision of the Web Copywriting Specialist, Digital Communications Studio, and the Senior Management of the Advocacy, Marketing and Communications Group in BERA.

Required Skills and Experience
Min. Education requirements
Advance university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Social Science or related field is required, or
A first-level university degree (bachelor’s) with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree.
Min. years of relevant work experience
Applicants with a master’s degree: no professional work experience required.
Applicants with a bachelor’s degree: minimum of 2 years of work experience in digital communications, media, marketing, journalism or related field.
Desired skills
Experience creating content for social media platforms or managing accounts
Experience in digital communications, media, marketing, journalism or related field
Experience working with content management systems
Experience within the United Nations System or similar organization
Experience producing and publishing web content in French
Experience planning and implementing social media or marketing campaigns
Experience editing web stories, headlines, video scripts, captions, etc. in French
Experience translating or reviewing translations from English to French
Experience evaluating social media performance through reporting and analytics
Required Language(s)
Fluency in French and English required
Knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
