This key leadership role partners with the Executive Producer, Line Producer, Production and Creative Executives, and subcontracted animation studios to execute the creative vision of the show while working within the schedule and budget for the series. The Associate Producer must be experienced in the TV animation production process and be comfortable dealing with internal and external departments on a daily basis. They will have strong management skills to oversee and give feedback to a production and artistic crew, anticipate and problem‑solve complexity, and lead a diverse group of people in a fast‑paced environment.
What You Will Do
Leadership
- Attend and oversee crew handouts, episode meetings, reviews, etc.
- Ensure that the Production and Artist teams track and implement all Executive, S&D & Legal notes.
- Innovate and continually assess processes for efficiency and value, meeting with the team to discuss current practices and new workflows.
- Oversee and manage the Storyboard process when applicable to the series.
- Approve timecards for the crew, ensuring correct hour allocation and proper overtime approval; track vacation/holiday calendars.
- Oversee the Retake process and cover the Retake session when the Coordinator is unavailable; work with the Post Supervisor or Coordinator to keep Mix dates and Final Playback sessions on track.
- Research and purchase reference/research materials as needed.
- Cover all Line Producer responsibilities when the LP is out of the office or when no LP is assigned to the series.
Scheduling
- Prepare weekly/monthly status reports for show leadership and the executive team, identifying areas of delay and maintaining shipping and late asset reports.
- Maintain close oversight of the calendar to ensure all meetings are scheduled and conflicts are resolved.
Staffing
- Work with the LP to hire full‑time and temporary staff and complete onboarding paperwork as needed.
- Partner with IT and Operations to ensure artists and production staff have all required hardware, software, and office tools; facilitate requests and follow up as needed.
- Request artist deals and trigger payments as needed.
Communication
- Work closely with Vendor Studios to ensure they are on track and clear on weekly expectations; flag any delays or issues.
- Ensure artists understand their assignment and delivery expectations.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the LP and show leadership to strategize and resolve issues regarding the Master Schedule and budget throughout all production phases.
- Partner with the LP to assess the impact of schedule and budget shifts and execute changes under the LP’s guidance.
- Partner with Art Directors to manage the Design team, creating master schedules, assigning artists, setting deadlines, giving feedback, and escalating concerns to the LP when necessary.
- Work with the LP to manage and oversee Pre and Post Production departments.
- Partner with Music, Casting, and Digital/Post departments to keep all areas on track with deadlines.
- Run weekly internal production meetings with the LP and production team.
- Coordinate with Story Editor and Casting for accurate script, ADR memo, production records, and ADR records.
- Assist the LP in delivering Franchise, Marketing, and Publicity requests.
- Assist the LP in scheduling animatics, color, and playback screenings with the Production Secretary.
Business Support
- Ensure all show elements and production material are archived per WDTVA and studio policy.
Technical Skills
- Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; ToonBoom Storyboard Pro; Adobe Photoshop; Insight; Ftrack or similar Production tracking tools.
- Excellent organizational skills, strong written & verbal communication.
- Additional duties as necessary.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of television animation experience.
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to partner with creatives and executives, collaborate with peers, and manage and mentor artists and production teams.
- Ability to oversee multiple projects and solve problems in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex production challenges.
- Positive attitude and flexibility.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and e‑social skills and acumen.
Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
Job Location
- This is a fully onsite role based in Glendale, CA.
The hiring range for this position in California is $85,000 to $116,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus and/or long‑term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
