District 61 - UNIT 206 - Ascension Parish

Engineering Technician 1-4 (Office Tech.)

The overall function of this position is responsible for assisting the Project Engineer and other employees belonging to Construction Unit 206, in the daily activities and responsibilities of the construction office. This position is located in District 61, Unit 206, Ascension Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Project Engineer. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and be able to handle unforeseen conditions or issues as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:

Utilizes a thorough knowledge and understanding of Department procedures, policies, standards and specifications in the completion of construction related documents. Complete required construction specialty area certifications. Interpret all contract documentation to ensure all Federal requirements are met such as: EEO, DBE, Certified Payrolls, testing and certificate requirements.
All office work pertaining to the contractors and construction projects. Performs mathematical calculations necessary to check field books, Headlight, and Site manager for preciseness in order to generate payments to contractors. Generate payments to contractors by generating estimates, reconciling quantities between field books and Site Manager, approve and forward for further approvals from the Project Engineer, contractor, and Area Engineer.
Manage the daily functioning of the office and DOTD employee paperwork within this unit. Enter office payrolls weekly into SAP; review documents for accuracy; print and file the summary for payroll reports. Submit payrolls to the Project Engineer and Area Engineer for review and approval. Create and submit overtime reports to the Area Engineer's office.
Telephone communications including answering incoming calls and directing calls accordingly, responding to the concerns of the public, contractors or other DOTD staff. Provide phone numbers to callers for other offices that could better assist their needs, maintaining voicemail, all incoming and outgoing messages.

Compensation:

$14.00 per hour

with an additional $2.00 per hour for every hour worked.
