ROLE OVERVIEW

The Communications & Digital Director leads The Word Church's communications and digital

strategy, ensuring messaging, storytelling, and digital presence are aligned with the mission and

executed with clarity and excellence. This role provides leadership across digital platforms,

content development, and communication systems while building structure, organization, and

consistency within the department.

The position works closely within the Experience Department and collaborates with Worship,

Creative, and Production teams to ensure communication, storytelling, and digital environments

support and reflect ministry experiences across the church. The role centers on strong systems,

organized planning, clear communication, and effective leadership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications & Digital Strategy

Develop and oversee a comprehensive communications and digital strategy that integrates social media, website content, email, and digital storytelling.
Ensure messaging consistency, brand alignment, and clarity across all platforms and ministry environments.
Track and analyze digital performance metrics to provide insights that strengthen engagement and reach.
Lead digital communication and promotion for church-wide events, services, and initiatives.
Creative & Content Execution Oversee the creation and publishing of video, graphic, and written content across digital platforms
Maintain consistency and excellence in brand identity, messaging, and visual storytelling
Curate shot lists and coordinate photographers and videographers to ensure intentional content capture during services and events
Support live-streaming and digital engagement during services as needed. Website, Email & Platform Management
Oversee website management, ensuring clear navigation, updated content, and a strong user experience.
Develop and manage email communication and automation campaigns to strengthen engagement and connection.
Ensure digital platforms function effectively for outreach, communication, and ministry engagement.
Department Leadership & Coordination Recruit, train, and lead volunteers and contributors supporting communications and digital execution.
Build and maintain workflows, systems, and planning rhythms that support clarity and organization.
Manage competing priorities and ensure consistent execution across initiatives.
Collaborate closely with all departments to maintain alignment and communication.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Experience in communications, digital strategy, or content leadership
Strong organizational and project management skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in digital and creative tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and email platforms
Preferred Experience in church or nonprofit communications
Background in branding, marketing, or digital strategy
Experience leading creative or communications teams
Familiarity with Planning Center or similar platforms
