Position Overview
TRIO English Specialist (Education Support Spec II) position offered by Laurel Ridge Community College in Frederick. Part‑time, up to 29 nonexempt hours per week. Hourly pay ranges from $16.26 to $21.32, commensurate with education, credentials, and experience. Telework options may be available based on business needs.
Work Schedule
Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Some evening and weekend coverage may be required as needed.
Responsibilities
Provide quality scheduled one‑to‑one, walk‑in, or appointment‑based tutoring services to TRIO students at Laurel Ridge Community College.
Design, develop, facilitate, and document workshops that align with program grant objectives, goals, and student needs; record attendance on the program platform, Blumen.
Integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize students’ potential for academic progress.
Maintain accurate records of individual and group tutoring sessions and all attendees.
Give consistent feedback to students on achieved progress; exhibit positive regard for students based on the mission and core values of Laurel Ridge Community College.
Uphold high levels of professionalism and student confidentiality at all times.
Collaborate with TRIO advisor, front office staff, and program leadership to support student services, workflow efficiency, and program needs beyond direct English support.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned and assist the agency or state government during emergency declarations.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled as a sophomore (2nd year) student at Laurel Ridge Community College or have an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution and be a minimum sophomore, as required by TRIO Grant requirements.
Demonstrated proficiency (minimum 3.0 GPA) in the subject areas relevant to the academic needs of SSS‑eligible students, offering targeted tutoring in core subjects. English levels required: college level English I & II, literature and public speaking.
Minimum of one year experience providing individualized academic support to students with diverse learning styles.
Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts in an accessible manner and facilitate productive tutoring sessions.
Proficiency in utilizing educational technology tools and platforms (e.g., Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard) to enhance tutoring sessions and support virtual learning environments; maintain accurate tutoring session records and provide regular student progress reports to Project Advisors and program administrators.
Collaboration with Project Advisors to align tutoring sessions with overall student support strategies, contributing to students’ holistic development.
Cultural sensitivity and understanding of SSS‑eligible students’ diverse backgrounds.
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly pay range: $16.26 – $21.32. Position is part‑time and not eligible for health or leave benefits. Educational benefits may be available through the college’s professional development and educational assistance policies.
