Job Description
Provide tutoring for all TRIO Student Support Program Participants at Laurel Ridge Community College Middletown campus. This tutor position is hourly wage and is limited to no more than 29 hours per week. Tutors work on an as‑needed basis; however, all tutors will have assigned hours to be present for tutoring and will have expected hours of availability for walk‑in traffic on campus and drop‑in traffic online and for appointment‑based tutoring in‑person or online. Support TRIO students from diverse backgrounds to improve English confidence, clarity, and academic success. This includes assistance with essays, research papers, outlines, citations, and resume building. Conduct workshops, monitor student participation and engagement, post announcements, and communicate with students to encourage continued involvement and timely completion of program workshop requirements. Provide other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Provide quality scheduled one‑to‑one, walk‑in or appointment‑based tutoring services to TRIO students, requiring a comprehensive understanding of concepts and information in subject areas to be tutored.

Design, develop, facilitate and document workshops; ensure workshop content aligns with program grant objectives, goals and student needs. Document workshop attendance on program platform, Blumen.

Integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize students’ potential for academic progress.

Maintain accurate records of individual and group tutoring sessions and all attendees.

Give consistent feedback to students on achieved progress; exhibit positive regard for students based on the mission and core values of Laurel Ridge Community College.

Uphold high levels of professionalism and student confidentiality at all times.

Collaborate with TRIO advisor, front office staff, and program leadership to support student services, workflow efficiency, and program needs beyond direct English support.

This position is restricted with funding through August 31, 2026. Funding may be revoked at any time.

Compensation
The hourly pay range for this position is $16.26-$21.32; however, actual starting hourly rate will be commensurate with education, credentials, and/or experience. This is a part‑time position and as such cannot exceed 29 hours per week and is not eligible for health or leave benefits. However, the position may offer educational benefits through our professional development and educational assistance policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled as a student at Laurel Ridge Community College as a 2nd year (sophomore classification) student OR have an associate’s or higher degree from an accredited institution and are a minimum of a 2nd year (sophomore) classification, per TRIO Grant requirements.

Demonstrated proficiency (minimum 3.0 GPA) in the subject areas relevant to the academic needs of SSS‑eligible students, offering targeted tutoring in core subjects (English levels required are college level English I and II, Literature and public speaking).

Experience (minimum of one year) providing individualized academic support to students with diverse learning styles, ensuring comprehension and mastery of academic content.

Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts in an accessible manner and facilitate productive tutoring sessions.

Proficiency in utilizing educational technology tools and platforms (such as Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard, etc.) to enhance tutoring sessions and support virtual learning environments. Ability to maintain accurate tutoring session records and provide regular student progress reports to Project Advisors and program administrators.

Collaboration with Project Advisors to align tutoring sessions with overall student support strategies, contributing to students’ holistic development.

Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of SSS‑eligible students’ diverse backgrounds.
