Position Summary
Responsible for leading and organizing activities for the summer programs. Work includes maintaining a safe play environment, providing arts and crafts, and daily activities, and supervising program participants. The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, with some weekend work; the season runs from late May through August 25th. Hours will vary based on candidate availability, department needs, and weather.
Examples of Work Performed
Maintain a safe play environment for participants by checking activity areas for hazardous conditions, such as litter, broken glass, and equipment condition.
Maintain order, supervise, and guide scheduled and unscheduled activities for participants.
Review and prepare necessary items to implement daily lesson plans.
Prepare all required reports on accidents and incidents, including participant injury or disciplinary matters.
Report unlawful behavior, vandalism, and hazardous conditions promptly to the proper authorities and to the Recreation Superintendent.
Complete all required forms, including incident reports, action reports, timesheets, attendance logs, work requests, and evaluation forms.
Respond to citizen concerns.
Coordinate with site authorities as needed.
Qualifications
At least 16 years of age.
Compensation
Starting hourly rate for a Program Leader is $15.25 in year one, $15.50 in year two, and $15.75 in year three. This is a seasonal position and there are no benefits.
