Principal Technical Strategist - Wallet, Payments, and Commerce Engineering

Apple, New York, NY, USA

Job type: Full Time

We are looking for a Principal Technical Strategist to join the Wallet, Payments, and Commerce (WPC) engineering organization. You'll own problems, not projects. The challenges you take on won't come with a brief or a predefined scope - they'll come as open-ended, high-stakes questions that need someone who can independently frame the problem, build conviction grounded in technical depth, and drive to outcomes. This is a hands-on role embedded within engineering, not an advisory one. You go deep into the stack, move fast, and operate autonomously.

The Product Operations team is responsible for helping Apple teams operate and execute effectively. Our team is responsible to take some of the most difficult organizational, business, or technological challenges. In this role, you will partner with senior leadership to develop and execute plans that change the way we do our work.\n\nTo do this role successfully, you need to have a deep technical understanding of how our products work, a strong sense of ownership, and fantastic execution skills. You need to be the kind of person who can wear many hats and do whatever it takes to get the job done.\n

Proven ability to operate independently on ambiguous, high-impact problems with minimal direction\nExceptional learning velocity - you've repeatedly entered unfamiliar technical domains and become effective faster than expected\nTechnical fluency - you can read an architecture diagram, understand engineering tradeoffs, and earn credibility with engineers\nStrong analytical rigor - comfortable with data, systems thinking, and quantitative reasoning; you build your own models and frameworks rather than waiting for them\nExperience working directly within or embedded alongside engineering organizations and generated technical artifacts (specifications, designs, architectures)\nTrack record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving decisions across organizational boundaries\nExcellent written and verbal communication; you distill complexity, not add to it\n12+ years in strategy, product, consulting, technical program management, software engineering, or similar roles demanding both strategic depth and execution

Background in payments, digital wallets, financial services, or commerce platforms\nFamiliarity with payment network ecosystems (card networks, issuers, acquirers, tokenization)\nExperience at the intersection of hardware, software, and services\n\n
