Description
Wilson College seeks a skilled and service-oriented AV and Classroom Technology Specialist to administer, support, and enhance campus audiovisual systems, classroom technologies, academic computing environments, and related instructional technologies. This position is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, lifecycle management, and performance optimization of classroom and AV systems across campus to support teaching, learning, and campus operations.
The AV and Classroom Technology Specialist exercises independent judgment in diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, evaluating and implementing technology solutions, and recommending system improvements and best practices. The position collaborates with faculty, staff, vendors, and Information Technology colleagues to ensure reliable and effective delivery of instructional and event technologies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Administer, configure, maintain, and support campus audiovisual and classroom technology systems, including integrated presentation, conferencing, streaming, and instructional technologies.
Oversee the operation, integration, and lifecycle management of AV systems located in classrooms, conference rooms, laboratories, and campus event spaces.
Analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex classroom and audiovisual technology issues impacting instructional continuity and campus operations.
Configure and support instructor stations, presentation systems, instructional software, lecture capture platforms, and related classroom technologies.
Manage and support academic computer lab environments, including imaging, software deployment, system updates, maintenance, and technology refresh initiatives.
Evaluate classroom and AV technology performance and recommend improvements, upgrades, and modernization strategies to enhance reliability, usability, and instructional effectiveness.
Assist in the planning, implementation, integration, and testing of new AV and instructional technology systems.
Develop and maintain standards, procedures, documentation, and best practices for classroom and audiovisual technology operations and support.
Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers regarding installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and system upgrades.
Support video conferencing, streaming, and recording technologies for instructional, administrative, and campus event use.
Coordinate and manage technical operations for major campus events utilizing AV, presentation, and streaming technologies.
Monitor equipment inventory, replacement schedules, warranties, and lifecycle planning for classroom and AV technologies.
Provide consultation, training, and technical guidance to faculty, staff, and students regarding effective use of classroom and instructional technologies.
Provide secondary escalation and backup support for complex end-user technology issues as needed.
Supervise and coordinate student workers assisting with classroom, AV, and technology support services.
Research emerging instructional and AV technologies and recommend solutions that align with institutional goals and user needs.
Collaborate with Information Technology staff to support integrated campus technology initiatives and ensure alignment with institutional technology standards.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES:
Strong technical knowledge of audiovisual systems, classroom technologies, and end-user computing environments.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues using sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and related instructional and productivity software.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and support requests in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and Information Technology team members.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a strong customer service orientation.
Ability to evaluate technology needs and recommend effective solutions and process improvements.
Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to support campus events and operations.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time, exempt position.
Standard work hours are generally Monday through Friday; however, evening and weekend hours are required as needed to support campus events and operations.
This position is fully onsite.
TRAVEL:
Occasional travel may be required for professional development, training, conferences, and support of off-site Wilson College locations, including the King of Prussia campus.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Required
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Audio-Visual Technology, Educational Technology, Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience administering and supporting audiovisual and classroom technology systems in instructional, conference, or event environments.
Experience supporting enterprise desktop computing environments, including hardware, software installation, imaging, and end-user technology support.
Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues in a networked environment.
Knowledge of integrated audiovisual systems, instructional technologies, and computer hardware/software support.
Preferred
Industry certification in audiovisual technology (e.g., CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I).
Experience with AV control systems and configuration platforms such as Crestron, Extron, or similar technologies.
Experience supporting higher education instructional technology environments.
Experience with lecture capture, video streaming, and conferencing platforms such as YuJa, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or similar systems.
Experience supporting network-connected AV technologies and integrated classroom systems.
Familiarity with AV wiring, cabling, connectors, and signal distribution technologies.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
