What You'll Be Doing

The CIBC US Asset-Based Lending seeks a Business Development Manager (BDM) to identify, develop, and assist in closing high-quality, asset-based lending transactions. The BDM will further develop CIBC’s presence across commercial banking, capital markets, wealth management and commercial real estate by engaging third‑party financial intermediaries, advisors and direct prospects. Target clients include middle‑market, entrepreneur‑led/privately‑held companies, publicly‑traded customers and financially‑sponsored businesses with financing needs typically in the $10MM to $75MM range, with syndication capabilities beyond $75MM. The BDM works closely with the ABL Underwriting Team to assess new opportunities that lead to new clients for the Bank.

How You'll Succeed

  • Business Development – Prospect new ABL clients and achieve new relationship acquisition and business generation goals.
  • Client engagement – Serve as the point person in assessing prospective relationships and deliver appropriate products while maintaining a CRM pipeline.
  • Strategy Focused – Assist in structuring new deals, act as strategic advisor, and maintain profitable centers of influence.
  • Relationship Management – Partner with commercial bankers to deliver solutions and sustain communication throughout the deal progression.
  • Leadership – Provide guidance during credit events, collaborate with Portfolio Managers during analysis, deal approval and negotiation.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Minimum 10 years of asset‑based lending experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of successful business development experience for a Commercial or ABL lender.
  • In‑depth understanding of the asset‑based lending industry, market structures and competition.
  • Strong referral‑source network with consistent calling efforts.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills and proficiency with online prospecting tools (e.g., RelPro, Salesforce, Pitchbook).
  • Self‑starter, able to work from home or office, with excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive travel as required by territory coverage.

  • Salary range $200,000.00 – $250,000.00 based on experience and location.
