Job Overview
Freese and Nichols is seeking a Water/Wastewater Transmission & Utilities Engineer in Training to join our Charlotte, NC office. The role involves preparing design calculations, drawings, and specifications for water and wastewater transmission and utilities projects.
Responsibilities
Prepare design calculations, drawings, and specifications necessary for the most economical methods of construction.
Perform analyses under guidance from senior engineers and prepare clear, concise reports of results and conclusions.
Coordinate with and provide task‑level guidance to technicians and junior staff, reviewing and evaluating their results.
Maintain and apply a working knowledge of accepted engineering design standards and practices to meet client needs and firm standards.
Coordinate the work of drafting personnel, technicians, or other engineers on technical aspects of project assignments.
Work toward keeping tasks within schedule and budget to meet project requirements.
Assist in providing input and coordination with other departments.
Provide data for cost estimating and secure preliminary equipment costs for review.
Contribute ideas for process improvements and support innovation that benefits the firm and its clients.
Keep project teams informed on project status and communicate effectively on progress, next steps, and coordination requirements.
Support Project Managers or serve as task lead on small projects that primarily require work within the own group but may also involve coordination with other groups and the client.
Demonstrate strong self‑leadership by managing individual tasks and priorities and beginning to provide guidance to junior staff or technicians under the direction of senior engineers.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience including independent evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering techniques.
B.S. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a relevant field. A master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.
Valid EIT certification progressing toward PE licensure.
Familiarity with Civil 3D is preferred.
