Overview
We are seeking an experienced Communication Strategist to support NASA’s Science Mission Directorate – Biological and Physical Sciences (BPS) at NASA HQ in Washington, DC. The Communications Strategist III will support the NASA NCS contract with PCI Productions and report to the Deputy Program Manager. This position would be hybrid.
Summary
In this role, you will plan, develop, and execute integrated communication strategies that support NASA’s mission, priorities, and organizational messaging.
Key Responsibilities
Organize and facilitate Biological and Physical Sciences (BPS) media briefings, media telecons, and all related media products in coordination with NASA’s Office of Communications.
Respond to regular media requests; schedule and facilitate interview requests for NASA subject matter experts.
Write and ensure accuracy of talking points regarding a wide range of division topics, including overarching mission messages; backgrounders for media briefings; anomalies or contingencies; and quick turnaround statements for media.
Coordinate and lead mission communications endeavors – such as communications plans around launches, engagement campaigns, and science results – across broad functional areas including social media, digital products, written products, event planning, and others.
Represent the BPS Division media interests on directorate and agency-wide communication teams.
Work closely with teams around the agency to integrate messages, products, and plans across NASA’s Science Mission Directorate and NASA.
Assist in facilitating review of all BPS communications products, including releases, features, videos, podcasts, eBooks, blogs and social media posts, coordinating with multiple centers and partners within and outside of NASA.
Collaborate with multi-functional teams in the role of a lead and a high impact individual contributor.
Qualifications
15 years of public affairs or media experience
Bachelor's degree
Excellent writing and editing skills
Outstanding organizational skills and adept at navigating competing priorities in a fast‑moving environment
Exceptional interpersonal skills and relationship‑building abilities
Ability to travel 5+ times a year
Preferred, but not required
Experience in science communications
Experience with crisis communications
