You will be the Technical Publications Writer for the Technical Publications team. Our team is responsible for creating and maintaining mission critical technical documentation that meets Military Specifications, delivering Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs), Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRs), Repair Parts & Special Tools Lists (RPSTLs), and high quality procedural graphics to support system sustainment and readiness.
What You Will Be Doing
Drafting, updating, and publishing IETMs, DMWRs, and RPSTLs in strict accordance with applicable MIL STDs.
Producing procedural graphics, illustrated parts breakdowns (IPBs), and other visual assets using approved graphics tools.
Reviewing engineering drawings, schematics, and software description documents for technical accuracy and completeness.
Coordinating with SMEs to gather, verify, and validate content; facilitating technical reviews and approvals.
Managing and maintaining documentation within the configured Content Management System (e.g., Windchill).
Assisting senior writers with layout, design, and structuring of Organizational, Intermediate, and Depot level Technical Manuals.
Supporting occasional overtime and limited travel to meet project milestones and customer requirements.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field OR an Associate’s degree combined with relevant experience.
Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
Basic familiarity with Extensible Markup Language (XML) and XSLT.
Knowledge of MIL‑STD‑40051‑1/2 (RevisionB) and MIL‑STD‑2361C (or later).
Experience with Arbortext Editor (Styler5.4 or higher) or comparable authoring tools.
Working knowledge of UltraEdit (or similar text editors) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Exposure to Content Management Systems such as Windchill.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
Must be familiar with layout, design and structure of Organizational, Intermediate and Depot level Technical Manuals (TM’s) including Operation and Maintenance, Theory of Operation, Fault Isolation Procedures, and Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPB’s).
Ability to produce illustrations using graphics tools such as ISOdraw, Autrotrol or similar graphics tools.
Ability to acquire and verify content and illustrations by coordinating across Engineering Disciplines, observing production methods, referring to engineering drawings, notes, manuals, and similar publications.
Ability to write using clear and concise language that adheres to customer-established standards and conventions.
Ability to write technical content for maintenance technical manuals including installation, test, repair, and troubleshooting procedures.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
Flexible work ethic with capacity to respond quickly to internal and external customer needs.
Willingness to work overtime and travel when required.
2–3 years of professional experience in technical writing or related engineering support.
Desired Skills
Experience with Patriot Ground Support Equipment or other U.S. Army publications.
Familiarity with Interactive Authoring and Display System (IADS)4.0+ or Electronic Maintenance System (EMS) Next Generation (NG).
