Job Overview

Managing Director of Commercial Accounts (MD, Commercial Accounts) oversees a team of underwriters who partner with agents and brokers to provide property, general liability, commercial auto, and workers' compensation coverage for new and renewal business. The role requires strategic leadership, decisive risk assessment, and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners.
What Will You Do?

Manage profitability, growth, and retention of business within a region.
Partner with RVP to develop and implement strategies to achieve profit and growth objectives.
Develop and execute local strategies concerning broker and agency relationships.
Underwrite and negotiate complex, high‑risk or hard‑to‑close deals.
Build relationships with internal partners to create sales strategies and identify cross‑selling opportunities.
Meet regularly with agents and brokers, traveling as needed.
Provide strategic direction and support to the team; coach, train, and manage performance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree.
Eight to ten years of commercial underwriting experience.
Experience leading or managing a team.
Expert knowledge of commercial accounts products, regulatory environment, and local market.
Strong critical thinking and decision‑making skills aligned with the company’s risk appetite.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
CPCU designation preferred.
Must Have

Six years of experience in underwriting, claims, operations, risk assessment, actuarial, sales, product or finance.
