Overview
Eversource is seeking a Community Relations and Economic Development Specialist to work from the Tilton and Newport work centers. The role focuses on building and maintaining strong relationships with local municipalities, business leaders, and key stakeholders across New Hampshire. The specialist will advance the economic vitality of the communities and customers by supporting regional, state, and local economic development initiatives; maintaining active engagement with the business community; and cultivating effective public-and-private sector partnerships.
Hybrid Work Policy
Eligible employees must work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Employees may work up to five days in the office if needed, such as emergencies, training, or other business needs. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
Implement community and municipal outreach strategies in collaboration with the Community Relations Team.
Lead emergency preparedness and response initiatives and execute the Community Liaison Plans.
Support local and regional economic development, including collaboration with municipal and state economic development departments.
Develop and maintain strategic corporate giving and employee engagement, volunteerism, and business membership programs.
Identify and support initiatives related to the company’s reputation and partner with municipalities to promote state and local economic development initiatives.
Provide municipal and community knowledge to move projects toward successful outcomes at small-scale project meetings, municipal briefings, and council or committee meetings.
Build relationships with community, private, and non-profit agencies and organizations to support Eversource initiatives.
Solicit, screen, and recommend grant awards to build sustainable communities and support company priorities.
Coordinate communication with municipal leaders on siting, permitting, construction, and maintenance activities for transmission, distribution, vegetation, and reliability projects.
Monitor and analyze local government policy changes, elections, ordinances, and council activities; serve as liaison with Eversource colleagues to ensure timely awareness and participation.
Advise internal business partners on local political activities, sensitivities, and emergent issues that may impact state and federal government relations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public/Government Administration, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Three (3) or more years of experience in community, customer care, or government relations (five years preferred).
Experience preparing and delivering presentations.
Experience supporting regional, state, and local economic development initiatives (preferred).
Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal and external audiences.
Good interpersonal and collaborative skills; ability to work with confidential information with integrity.
Organizational skills to analyze, coordinate, and implement initiatives.
Diplomacy and ability to interact with all levels of management and government officials.
Knowledge of municipal, state, and regional government, regulatory processes, utility business, and energy supply issues.
Knowledge of crisis communication and media relations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), outage management systems, and virtual meeting software.
Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) to support company initiatives.
Additional Requirements
Valid motor vehicle license.
Must be available for emergency storm assignments, travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire, and extended work hours during emergencies.
Evening, weekend, and night availability for public hearings, council meetings, and company events.
Comfortable leveraging mobile technologies to work remotely as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $97,990.00 – $108,880.00. The role is eligible for a potential incentive. Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program.
