Panama City Symphony (PCS), a cornerstone of Northwest Florida’s cultural landscape for 31 years, seeks a visionary Music Director and Conductor . Following a period of historic resilience and growth, PCS is entering a dynamic renaissance alongside the Emerald Coast community. This full-time leadership role offers the unique opportunity to shape the artistic future of a thriving orchestra, advocate for a new state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center, and curate programming for diverse regional venues, including the upcoming historic Martin Theatre.

The Ideal Candidate

We seek a charismatic, high-energy conductor who balances elite artistic mastery with a collaborative leadership style. The ideal MDC is a visionary ambassador, deeply committed to community immersion, music education, and professional partnership with the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Artistic Leadership: Execute full-season programming, lead all rehearsals/performances, and procure high-level guest artists.
  • Community Presence: Serve as the primary brand representative and emcee for events; engage in media appearances and civic speaking.
  • Collaborative Governance: Work under Board direction, maintaining a close partnership with the Board Officers on organizational goals and donor relations.
  • Education & Mentorship: Provide oversight for the String Academy, school programs, and the Biennial Emerging Artists Competition.
  • Infrastructure Advocacy: Act as a primary agent in driving the development of a new permanent home and Performing Arts Center for PCS.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A Doctorate in Music is preferred.

Experience: 5 years of experience as a professional orchestral conductor.

Artistic Mastery: Technical authority to lead musicians; dynamic and energetic podium presence.

Programming: Proven success curating diverse seasons (Masterworks, Pops, Holiday) that drive ticket revenue and artistic growth.

Fiscal & Leadership Skills: Expertise in managing artistic budgets, donor cultivation, and fostering collaborative relationships with Board and staff.
