Program Manager (Contract)

Summary
This is a dynamic and high-impact role focused on leading the operational backbone of a global marketing communications function. The position is responsible for owning and evolving the systems, platforms, workflows, and processes that enable communications to be delivered at scale with clarity, consistency, and quality. Operating with a high degree of independence, this individual partners closely with Communications leads to translate strategy into structured, repeatable execution across internal channels. From managing publishing pipelines and automating workflows to implementing AI-enabled practices and building measurement frameworks, this role sits at the intersection of communications, technology, and operations. The ideal candidate brings a systems‑thinking mindset, deep platform expertise, and a proven ability to design scalable solutions in complex organizational environments.
Job Responsibilities
Own end-to-end operations of internal communications channels and platforms, including SharePoint, email and newsletter distribution, Viva Engage, and survey and measurement tools
Ensure clear connection across channels so communications land as a cohesive experience for employees
Define and maintain standards for how content is published, structured, and consumed
Own the publishing pipeline across all communications channels and establish standards for formatting, quality assurance, and channel usage
Design repeatable workflows for content intake, production, approval, and publishing
Ensure last-mile excellence across all published materials, including accuracy, consistency, and usability
Design and implement scalable workflows across communications processes using Power Automate and related tools
Identify manual or high-friction processes and redesign them into automated or system-driven workflows
Build and maintain automation solutions across content intake, approval, publishing, distribution, targeting, and performance tracking
Define and implement practical applications of AI tools across communications workflows, including recurring content production, reporting, and knowledge capture
Test, validate, and scale AI-assisted workflows that improve quality, speed, and consistency
Drive adoption of AI-enabled practices across the team
Own measurement strategy for communications channels and programs and deliver recurring reporting with clear, actionable insights
Own the communications calendar and publishing cadence across the organization
Track dependencies, timelines, approvals, and delivery across communications workstreams
Evaluate current communications workflows and identify opportunities for simplification and scale
Translate communications strategies and priorities into structured execution plans across channels, timing, and formats
Define and implement a centralized approach for tracking communications and event budgets
Partner with Event Management to ensure adoption of standardized budget tracking processes
Requirements
7 or more years of experience in communications operations, marketing operations, or program management
Experience designing and implementing operational systems at scale
Demonstrated success improving communications delivery through automation, AI, or systems redesign
Experience working in complex, matrixed organizational environments with multiple stakeholder groups
Prior Microsoft internal communications experience is required; candidates without this background will not be considered
Extensive experience managing and operating internal communications platforms including SharePoint, email systems, and Viva Engage
Hands‑on experience designing and implementing workflow automation using Power Automate or similar tools
Strong systems thinking and process design capability with a focus on scalability and efficiency
Experience applying AI tools such as Copilot to improve communications workflows and content production
Demonstrated ability to design and maintain measurement and reporting frameworks across multiple channels
Strong program management skills including calendar management, dependency tracking, and stakeholder coordination
Ability to translate high‑level communications strategies into structured, repeatable execution plans
Experience working across complex stakeholder environments with a high degree of independence
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, consistency, and quality in all published materials
Prior internal communications experience at Microsoft is required

Location: Redmond, WA (Hybrid: 1 day a week)
Duration: 13 months
Pay Range: $69 - $78.50 per hour
Weekly Schedule: 40 hours
