Job Description
The Kennett School District seeks applicants for a Choir Director at Kennett High School/Kennett Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. As part of our innovative 4‑day school week schedule, you will have the opportunity to engage students in meaningful learning experiences while maintaining a healthy work‑life balance.

Vocal Music Teacher/Choir Director

Performance Responsibilities

Instruct students in developing knowledge and skills in choral music in accordance with the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.

Enable students to develop an appreciation of the art of music.

Demonstrate techniques to students in choral music concepts.

Develop clear and concise lesson plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of preparation, instruction, and rehearsal time.

Assign duties to choral assistants as necessary.

Provide individual and small group instruction and adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities.

Use a variety of instructional techniques and musical repertoire appropriate for the ages and skill level of students.

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and create a safe, orderly, and effective environment for students.

Arrange opportunities for students to present musical performances.

Plan, rehearse, and direct students in musical programs for the school and community.

Plan and organize concerts, musical events, and other performances:

Scheduling, select music, conduct rehearsals.

Prepare and produce concert programs.

Prepare and produce musical programs.

Organize, lead, and supervise large groups of students.

Cooperate with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.

Instruct students in the proper care and use of equipment.

Organize storage areas and control the use of materials and equipment related to the choral program.

Maintain an organized and workable inventory of all music and equipment related to the choral program.

Evaluate student performance and growth in knowledge and understandings and prepare regular progress reports.

Confer regularly with parents/guardians regarding behavior observations and the performance of students.

Maintain thorough records for each student.

Attend staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities.

Keep abreast of developments, research, and new technology in the field of music education.
