The Organization: Founded in 1846 to care for the children of sailors in the Port of New York, Seamen's Society for Children and Families ("Seamen’s Society") was one of the first organizations in the US to care for abandoned children in family settings, rather than institutions. Today, Seamen's Society is a comprehensive $28 million nonprofit organization that offers foster care and adoption services, mental and behavioral health care services, prevention/family stabilization services, domestic violence intervention services, a health home care management program, education financial support, a childcare center, and a youth tutoring program. The agency's 200+ professionals serve over 1,250 children and over 500 families in New York City. Programs are conducted in a trauma-informed, caring manner that understands and embraces the diversity of the communities served by the organization.

Job Summary

The Development and Communications Associate supports all aspects of the Development Department’s work, including fundraising initiatives, donor communications, and marketing efforts. Responsibilities include creating graphic and written content for digital and print media, managing email campaigns and website content, assisting with donor engagement and fundraising campaigns, and overseeing marketing vendor relations.

Responsibilities
Communication and Marketing

Develop marketing materials and presentations to support donor engagement and fundraising initiatives

Lead the creation and production of The Anchor – Seamen’s Society’s annual newsletter

Collaborate with program staff to gather and translate impact stories and data into compelling content for donor campaigns

Create and produce graphics, videos, and multimedia content to support campaigns, events, and promote storytelling

Manage and update website content, online forms, and social media platforms to ensure consistency and engagement

Plan, draft, schedule, and send email marketing campaigns

Plan, draft, schedule, and post social media marketing campaigns

Monitor and analyze performance metrics across digital channels (email, social media, and website) for analysis and reporting purposes

Coordinate with marketing vendors and oversee related purchasing

Support the development and execution of integrated marketing and fundraising campaigns

Identify and recommend new digital media opportunities and platforms to enhance reach and engagement

Capture photo and video content at agency events and programs for campaign use

Assist with media outreach, updating and maintaining media/press contact lists

General Administrative Support

Provide administrative assistance to the CDO, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and managing correspondence as well as other special projects as needed

Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, including logistics, vendor coordination, registration, and participant engagement

Maintain and update contacts records and donor data within CRM and database systems

Perform data entry, list management, and reporting to ensure accurate outreach

Process purchase orders and assist with budget tracking/expense management

Ensure compliance with the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics, IRS regulations, and organizational gift acceptance and acknowledgment policies

Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned within scope of role

Community Outreach

Represent the organization at internal and external events, including occasional evenings and weekends

Support participation in community events and networking opportunities to build relationships and increase awareness of Seamen's Society’s programs

Cultivate and maintain relationships with community organizations on Staten Island and Brooklyn.

Serve as an agency representative on committees supporting community events and initiatives

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or related field preferred

A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, or nonprofit development preferred

Proficiency in social media platforms, Canva, and Microsoft Office Suite required

Experience with Donor Perfect CRM and Adobe Creative Suite preferred

Excellent writing and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated knowledge of social media, digital marketing, and web trends

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

Ability to travel throughout the community as needed; valid driver’s license preferred.

Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends as needed
