Onboard colleagues to existing tools and develop new tooling as needed.

Balance engineering principles with the need for rapid news coverage.

Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission.

Collaborate with journalists to transform data into new formats and products.

Contribute to elections coverage beyond data engineering, including original reporting and story/graphic/tool development.

Ability to meet tight deadlines and make trade‑off decisions.

Collaborative experience across diverse teams.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule to support elections and polls.

Preferred Qualifications

Journalistic experience or interest, particularly on elections.

Experience developing ETL pipelines, orchestration tooling, and ensuring reliability and observability.

Experience with Google BigQuery or other OLAP databases and data warehousing patterns.

Experience building productionized HTTP‑based applications.

Prior experience in a newsroom environment or similar fast‑paced setting.

R shop experience (though prior R experience is not a necessity).

Benefits

Annual base pay range: $113,945.85 – $170,000 USD.

Potential variable pay such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.

Medical, dental, and vision benefits; Flexible Spending Accounts; 401(k) with company matching; paid vacation, sick days, and parental leave; tuition reimbursement; professional development programs.
