About the Role
CNN is seeking a VP of Product Management – Ad Products to lead our advertising product strategy across platforms. The role focuses on creating high‑impact ad experiences, improving funnel efficiency, and deepening integration with the Warner Bros. Discovery advertising stack. It sits at the intersection of product, revenue, data, and engineering and requires a leader who can rally cross‑functional teams to build ad products that drive revenue while enhancing the overall user experience. The position is critical to modernizing CNN’s advertising business and moving beyond standard ad units to more integrated, user‑centric experiences.
Responsibilities
- Own ad product strategy: define the vision, roadmap, and success metrics for CNN’s ad products across web, app, video, and emerging platforms, balancing revenue, user experience, and advertiser value.
- Create innovative, differentiated ad experiences: develop new formats, integrations, and storytelling experiences that go beyond standard ad units, embedding advertising more natively into the CNN experience in ways that are compelling for advertisers and respectful of users.
- Optimize performance across the ads funnel and ecosystem: improve funnel efficiency (supply → targeting → delivery → measurement) maximizing yield and advertiser outcomes for direct and programmatic ads, while partnering with WBD to leverage its broader ad stack.
- Drive product‑led monetization across teams: partner with product leaders to ensure advertising is considered early in product development and built into core experience roadmaps.
- Partner closely with Ad Sales: collaborate to inform product strategy and ensure new ad products are aligned with market needs, supporting go‑to‑market, packaging, and positioning.
- Advance targeting and personalization: partner with data teams to enable more precise, privacy‑compliant audience segmentation and activation.
- Build and lead a high‑performing ad product team that is data‑driven, user‑centric, and grounded in experimentation.
- Key focus areas for the first twelve months include unifying CNN’s ad product strategy within the WBD ecosystem, launching new differentiated ad products and formats, embedding monetization thinking into core product development workflows, improving targeting precision and match rates, increasing yield through funnel optimization and inventory management, and establishing clear measurement of advertiser performance and user impact.
Qualifications and Experience
- 12+ years of experience in digital advertising, ad tech, or product management, with senior leadership experience.
- Proven track record of building and launching innovative ad products or monetization features (not just operating existing systems).
- Demonstrated success improving monetization and funnel performance at scale.
- Strong understanding of the digital ad ecosystem (ad serving, programmatic, identity, data platforms, measurement) and experience working in both direct‑sold and programmatic advertising.
- Experience developing custom ad experiences (native, branded content, interactive formats).
- Ability to drive cross‑functional alignment and influence product roadmaps without direct authority.
- Strong cross‑functional leadership and stakeholder management skills.
