BMO’s U.S. Media & Entertainment Industries Group (\u201CMEIG\u201D) is hiring an experienced, driven Managing Director (MD) to lead coverage of mid-cap and large-cap Media & Entertainment clients.

MEIG focuses on the evolving media & entertainment ecosystem and supports a diverse client base spanning entertainment content, traditional media, and related sectors.

The MD will play an important leadership role for MEIG, charged with expanding the franchise and portfolio across mid-cap and large-cap Media & Entertainment, reporting directly into the Head of the Unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development & Relationship Management:
    • Facilitate growth for the Bank through business development and management of key client relationships; maintain an outstanding record of meaningful revenue generation.
    • Build and maintain long-term relationships with high-value and strategic clients, serving as a trusted advisor to executive teams and key decision makers.
    • Drive client planning and share-of-wallet expansion by coordinating the right product partners and delivering integrated solutions.
    • Lead market coverage strategy for assigned subsectors/segments; identify new opportunities through market insights, competitor awareness, and proactive origination efforts.
    • Maintain strong connectivity with financial sponsors, private equity firms, and institutional investors active in Media & Entertainment, supporting sponsor‑led transactions and syndicated financings.
    • Work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to define products, solutions and strategies that best fit clients’ needs.
  • Deal Origination, Structuring & Execution Leadership:
    • Lead the structuring of high-value, complex transactions and coordinate deal teams to execute efficiently and with strong client experience.
    • Apply deep expertise in media‑specific credit structures, including IP‑backed cash flows, content libraries, distribution contracts, project‑based financing, and event‑driven revenue streams.
    • Partner closely with MEIG’s underwriting/portfolio teams on diligence, modeling approach, and approval strategy to drive high-quality credit outcomes.
    • Negotiate commercial terms and support documentation processes with internal partners and external counsel, as appropriate.
    • Act as an escalation point for complex client matters; apply strategic problem‑solving to resolve issues while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Portfolio Leadership & Returns Discipline (in Partnership with PM/Credit):
    • Manage a high-value client portfolio to drive cross‑selling, retention, profitability, and disciplined returns.
    • Leverage analysis and planning tools to ensure the portfolio exceeds ROE thresholds and evaluate client returns proactively.
    • Maintain strong awareness of portfolio performance and emerging risks; coordinate early actions and solutions with credit/portfolio stakeholders.
  • Market Presence & Franchise Building (No Direct Reports Required):
    • Represent the Bank at relevant industry forums and conferences; translate insights on trends, competition, and emerging products into actionable client strategies.
    • Build MEIG’s brand through selective external engagement with industry executives, sponsors, banks, advisors, and other centers of influence.
    • Influence how teams work together by fostering strong internal networks and collaborating across multiple groups to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Relationship Management, Account Management, Portfolio Management or Investment Banking in a Media & Entertainment, mid‑cap / large‑cap, sponsor / leveraged finance or similar specialized banking environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
  • Solid commercial credit knowledge.
  • Seasoned expert with extensive Media & Entertainment industry knowledge.
  • Technical leader viewed as a thought leader for innovation.
  • Demonstrated success originating and leading complex, high‑value Media & Entertainment transactions, including underwriting commitments and syndicated facilities.
  • Proven credibility with C‑suite executives, sponsors, and advisors across the media ecosystem.
  • Strong understanding of complex capital structures (including prorata and institutional debt) and capital markets.
  • Expert level of proficiency in Product Knowledge, Regulatory Compliance, Structuring Deals, Portfolio Management, Credit Risk Assessment, Project Management, Change Management, Customer Service, Stakeholder Management, Negotiation, Customer Relationship Building.

Salary and Benefits
