About the Opportunity
Northeastern University is seeking a Director of Global Media Relations to join a high‑performing Communications team at a global enterprise. The Director will develop and execute a strategy for press engagement across domestic and global media markets, manage relationships with top‑tier news organizations, and lead a team of media relations professionals. The role is based on the Boston campus and is fully in‑person, with routine after‑hours work including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive global media strategy that aligns with Northeastern’s brand and messaging priorities.
- Manage relationships with domestic and international media contacts, ensuring high‑quality earned coverage in top‑tier publications.
- Oversee the development of complex story concepts, from ideation through to high‑profile earned placements.
- Build and manage a global media relations team, setting goals, providing coaching, and ensuring team performance.
- Leverage AI‑powered tools (media monitoring, analytics, content generation) to identify trends, surface story opportunities, and optimize media strategy.
- Collaborate with university leaders and external affairs partners to coordinate media outreach and crisis communications.
- Provide rapid response and crisis communication support, maintaining brand integrity during high‑profile events.
Qualifications
- Minimum 6–8 years of experience working with press across top‑tier publications, including international outlets.
- Proven track record in strategic communications operations that prioritize earned press.
- Experience managing people in a fast‑paced, goal‑oriented organization.
- Strong history of building relationships with reporters, managing complex, on‑message stories, and achieving top‑tier earned placements.
- Familiarity with AI‑powered media monitoring, analytics, and content tools; ability to integrate these into daily workflow.
- Superb command of facts and data; ability to stay calm under crisis.
- Energetic, positive attitude with exemplary work ethic and attention to detail.

Compensation
Salary range: $99,010–$143,567.50, based on experience, education, and other factors.
