About the Role
The Director of Federal Government Affairs will be a key member of MiniMed’s U.S. Government Affairs team, leading federal advocacy efforts and reporting to the Head of Office.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of MiniMed’s federal government affairs strategy.
- Partner with internal teams to align advocacy efforts with business objectives and drive strategic outcomes.
- Represent MiniMed before federal policymakers, trade associations, industry partners, and patient/provider organizations.
- Monitor and analyze legislative, regulatory, and political developments; provide timely insights and strategic recommendations.
- Identify and mitigate policy, political, and reputational risks.
- Collaborate across the Government Affairs function to support enterprise-wide U.S. strategies.
- Ensure compliance with federal lobbying and ethics regulations.
- Manage external consultants and contract lobbyists.
- Travel as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of government affairs experience, or 8+ years with an advanced degree.
- 7+ years of experience managing people, programs, or projects.
- Proven success developing and executing federal advocacy strategies aligned with business goals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex policy issues clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex political, regulatory, and business environments.
- Track record of influencing policy outcomes, including through coalition building.
- Experience in Congress, the executive branch, or political campaigns.
- Strong relationship‑building skills with policymakers and key stakeholders.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience in medical technology, life sciences, or healthcare.
- Experience handling high‑stakes policy or reputational challenges.
- Familiarity with PACs and grassroots advocacy programs.
- Adaptability and ability to quickly learn new subject areas.
- Strong leadership, integrity, accountability, and composure under pressure.
