We are looking for a Senior Search Engineer (Elasticsearch) to join a high-impact team dedicated to the core of our platform: the search engine. With a catalog exceeding 10 million products, you will play a critical role in ensuring our customers find exactly what they need in milliseconds.
Your Mission & Impact
As a Search Engineer, you’ll be the architect of discovery. You will move beyond basic CRUD operations to solve complex problems involving high‑cardinality data, real‑time indexing, and sophisticated ranking logic.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Scaling and tuning our Elasticsearch clusters to handle 10M+ products while maintaining ultra‑low latency.
- Leading hands‑on development within our Java/Spring Boot ecosystem to build robust, high‑performance search services.
- Implementing and refining search features such as Custom Analysers, Query DSL optimisation, and Learning to Rank (LTR).
- Designing and maintaining efficient indexing pipelines (Bulk API) to handle millions of daily product updates and price changes.
- Working closely with Product and Data teams to translate business requirements into technical search solutions.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for a candidate who understands the "internals" of search and can navigate the complexities of a massive e‑commerce catalog.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Deep Elasticsearch Expertise: Proven experience managing large‑scale clusters, specifically focusing on sharding strategies and performance tuning at scale.
- Significant professional experience in Java and Spring Boot
- A strong understanding of Lucene internals, tokenisation, and scoring algorithms (BM25/TF-IDF).
- Cloud Proficiency: Experience deploying and scaling search solutions in cloud environments
- Bonus Skills: Experience with Solr migrations, vector search, or specialised e‑commerce platforms

Compensation & Work Arrangement
- Budget Range: €90,000 - €110,000 EUR, depending on experience.
- Location: HQ is based in Germany, but the role can be offered hybrid or remotely within EU timezone
