About Corgi
At Corgi, we’re building the first fully automated insurance carrier and rebuilding the $1T+ insurance industry from the ground up using AI. We are well‑funded, backed by top investors, and dedicated to operating with the seriousness this industry requires.
Job Overview
As the Director of Government Affairs, you will be Corgi’s face and voice with state regulators and lawmakers. The role is on‑the‑ground, in‑the‑room, and on‑a‑plane. You will build trust by meeting regulators, legislators, and other key stakeholders in state capitals and nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain direct, durable relationships with state insurance commissioners, deputy commissioners, and DOI senior staff across the country, deepening Corgi’s footprint in core states and establishing new relationships where we haven’t yet planted a flag.
- Develop relationships with governors, governors’ insurance and financial services advisors, and senior administration staff in priority states to ensure we’re in the room when regulatory tone is being shaped.
- Cultivate relationships with key legislators, especially insurance committee chairs and members, and their staff; know them before we need something.
- Spend significant time on the road in state capitals; be a recognizable presence at DOI headquarters.
- Represent Corgi at NAIC, NCOIL, and state regulator working groups, attending every time as a relationship venue and policy venue.
- Manage and direct our network of contract lobbyists across multiple states so they amplify your relationships rather than replace them.
- Act as Corgi’s early‑warning system: pick up regulatory signals and shifting political dynamics directly and bring them home before they become problems.
- Partner with internal legal, product, and ops teams to translate ground insights into action and ensure internal moves match the relationships built.
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of state‑level government affairs, lobbying, or regulatory experience.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with state insurance regulators, governors’ offices, and legislative staff in both established and new contacts.
- Track record of moving state legislation, regulation, or filings forward with tangible outcomes.
- Working knowledge of state insurance regulation and the NAIC ecosystem; experience in a state insurance department, governor’s office, legislature, or insurtech government affairs team strongly preferred.
- Road‑warrior temperament: you thrive on repeated in‑person visits and understand they are key to building trust.
- Strong judgment and excellent communication; comfortable speaking to commissioners and the CEO alike.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change; able to balance speed with regulatory soundness.
- Willingness to travel 40%+ to state capitals, NAIC meetings, and industry events.
