Overview & Responsibilities
The Director of Global Technical Services provides leadership for the Global Manufacturing operation’s technical support. Responsibilities include providing technical support for field equipment worldwide, performing failure analysis, coordinating warranty policy, delivering technical training, and collaborating with multiple departments to resolve service issues.
Background and Experience
- BSME, Engineering/Science degree or equivalent.
- 10+ years engineering experience with turbomachinery equipment.
- Minimum 5 years supervisory management experience with profit/loss responsibility.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, and engineering design.
- Strong decision‑making, negotiation, and customer communication skills.
Supervision
- Supervises and develops staff across Technical Service Engineering, Repair Technology Engineering, and Reliability Control Engineering.
- Handles hiring, training, performance appraisal, salary administration, and policy setting.
- Indirectly oversees staff not directly reporting to the director.
Specific Job Responsibilities
- Directs daily activities of the Technical Services team to provide prompt technical information.
- Allocates resources, schedules work, and controls costs.
- Provides professional growth opportunities for staff.
- Collaborates with regional and global partners to reduce customer downtime and liabilities.
- Administers warranty policy and safeguards company interests.
- Co‑ordinates product development and modification initiatives.
- Manages field service and R&D projects, including experimental programs.
- Discovers root causes of failures and leads root‑cause analyses.
- Reports findings at departmental and cross‑functional meetings.
- Designs and delivers training programs to customers and internal personnel.
- Controls departmental budgets, approves expense reports, and manages foreign duty and hardship bonuses.
- Maintains a safety culture and resolves major customer conflicts.
- Provides technical support to legal personnel and presents in litigation contexts.
- Engages in business development and operational coordination with regional assets.
