Position Summary
The Senior Communications Manager is a strategic thinker and agile communicator who will lead communications efforts in the Delta region (Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana). The role focuses on raising awareness, building constituency, and shaping conversations around conservation priorities. The manager reports to the Vice President, Delta, and will work in a hybrid or remote capacity within the region.
Essential Functions
- Develop and leverage internal and external partnerships to advance community, conservation, and policy goals.
- Generate and execute ideas to improve engagement, increase membership, convert members to email lists and advocates, and utilize paid advertising and other outreach tools.
- Lead advocacy‑driven communication campaigns with measurable goals for Delta priorities.
- Work with community and policy colleagues to develop messaging frameworks, reports, fact sheets, GIS StoryMaps, and talking points.
- Produce content across written, audio, visual, and multimedia formats, including press releases, editorials, media pitches, and action alerts.
- Create PowerPoint presentations and support the Delta staff in managing the organization’s website, social media strategy, and content.
- Track communications goals and outcomes, preparing summaries for grant reports.
- Supervise communications interns.
- Maintain and foster a culture of safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of field experience in communications, marketing, policy, or government relations.
- Experience developing and implementing communication plans and strategies.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with demonstrated experience in newsletters, marketing literature, social media, and public‑relations materials.
- Ability to write well, quickly, and under pressure.
- Digital communications experience, including social media engagement and website updating.
- Experience pitching and building relationships with traditional and new media.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional organizational and project‑management skills, able to manage multiple projects on time and within budget.
- Exceptional storytelling and creative thinking, able to simplify complex subjects for diverse audiences.
- Self‑starter with a proactive, independent, and collaborative work style.
- Flexible approach, willing to travel as needed and participate in events after typical business hours.
- Strong commitment to conservation, climate solutions, and the mission of the National Audubon Society.

Compensation
$88,839 – $95,000 per year.
Working Arrangement
Hybrid preferred; remote candidates within the Delta region will be considered. Hybrid employees are expected to work in an Audubon office every Monday and Tuesday and an additional two days each month of their choosing. Employees should be located within commuting distance of one of Audubon’s offices, including New Orleans.
