Director State Government Affairs – Southeast
The Director State Government Affairs – Southeast will serve as the primary liaison between CSL Behring and state government officials in the Southeast US region, leading legislative, regulatory and advocacy efforts that impact the company’s operations, patients and public policy.
Responsibilities
- Represent CSL Behring as the key point of contact for public officials, building and maintaining relationships with state legislators, committee staff, administrative and regulatory officials, and identifying legislative champions.
- Provide legislative strategy and regulatory analysis, drafting legislation, providing technical corrections, and developing support for priorities to CSL B leadership and cross‑functional teams.
- Represent site operations throughout the Southeast, supporting the growth of CSL Plasma by engaging public officials and advancing supportive public policy for plasma donation and the CSL Plasma network.
- Advocate for Medicaid policies and other state legislative and regulatory initiatives that ensure patient access to CSL therapies; coordinate with market access, corporate accounts, reimbursement, and other internal teams.
- Develop and execute relationship strategies with allies and patient advocacy groups, building grassroots coalitions and coordinating with CSL B departments on policy positioning and outreach.
- Prepare written summaries, concise presentations, and informal communications for leadership, advocacy organizations and other stakeholders; translate complex policy topics into lay language.
- Represent CSL Behring on state affairs committees and trade associations such as PhRMA, BIO, state biotech associations, and chambers.
- Manage the business relationship with contract consultants, directing key activities to advance policy objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree preferred) in public policy, government, political science or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in government affairs, state government or legislative advocacy in the Southeast US region.
- Prior experience in pharmaceutical/biotech, trade associations or patient advocacy organizations.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of the life sciences industry.
- Excellent customer focus and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
