Head of Brand & Communications (Early‑Stage Social Media App) - Salary: $100k–$140k base + equity
We’re working with a social app that’s at a genuinely exciting point. It’s already live, people are using it consistently, and there’s a growing sense that it’s tapping into a new kind of behaviour. It’s not hypothetical anymore, something real is starting to happen, and you can feel the momentum building.
What hasn’t caught up yet is the brand. There are strong ideas across the company, in the product, in marketing, in how they talk about what they’re doing, but it’s all a bit disconnected. Nothing’s broken, it just hasn’t been pulled into a clear, cohesive point of view. They need someone to step in and actually define that. To figure out what this company stands for, what makes it different, and how that should come across in everything they put out into the world.
This role is about doing that work properly. Not from a distance, but in it day-to-day. You’d be working closely with the founder and a small, experienced team, taking rough ideas and shaping them into something sharper and more intentional. Some days that’s stepping back and thinking about positioning and narrative, other days you’re deep in the detail, refining copy, pushing creative, or making calls on what feels on-brand and what doesn’t. It needs someone who’s comfortable moving between those levels without overthinking it.
They’re looking for someone who’s been through this stage before, where things are still moving quickly and not everything is defined yet. Ideally you’ve helped shape a consumer brand in that kind of environment. You’ll need strong instincts, a good sense of culture, and the confidence to have a clear point of view and stick to it when it matters.
The real appeal here is the level of influence. You’re not maintaining an existing brand system, you’re building it from the ground up while the company is still finding its shape. If you like working closely with founders, figuring things out in real time, and having a genuine hand in how something new is understood and talked about, this is the kind of role that doesn’t come up often.
