Summary
The Specification Writer 2 creates and maintains technical documents outlining requirements and standards for civil and environmental projects. The role collaborates with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure clear, accurate, and compliant specifications. Responsibilities include revising specifications, interpreting drawings, performing quality control, facilitating meetings, managing templates, calculating quantities, estimating costs, and preparing correspondence.

Technical Expertise

Previous experience in specification writing, technical writing, or a related field

Solid understanding of technical fundamentals

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other documentation tools

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines

Basic technical tasks with market sector, limited oversight

Quality control of basic deliverables

Eagerness to learn and expand skill set, advanced understanding of technical writing skills

Interpret appropriate design guidance from technical memos and reports

Understand how specifications influence construction methods, bid items, quantities, and cost estimates
