Position Overview


The ideal candidate will be a newsroom leader who consistently leads by example. A WFTV Investigative Reporter must have a strong on‑air presence and embrace going live. The candidate must have proven experience developing contacts and breaking news stories. This person must not be afraid to dig and go after public records and hold authorities accountable. We are looking for someone who sets the tone with credible journalism, can develop a connection with our viewers and create memorable moments in our newscasts. You must have a winning attitude and want to compete for the "big story" every day.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Be a newsroom leader

  • Identify and pitch investigative angles to big daily news stories

  • Attend the daily editorial meeting and pitch stories

  • Develop a network of sources and experts to generate investigative stories

  • Write online versions of investigative reports and work with Manager or Coverage and Content for web extras

  • Shoot and write news stories on tight time schedules

  • Be a regular contributor on various social media platforms and engage with the public

  • Stay informed about content via competitive websites and follow social media on a regular basis

  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications



  • B.S. Degree or equivalent experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in television news reporting

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Required to cover news stories from the field

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
