Job Title Social Media Editor, EW
Job Summary The Social Media Editor executes EW’s strategy, content, and audience development on social platforms. They work closely with EW’s Social Media Director, video, edit, and sales teams to explore and develop strategy for emerging platforms. This role requires advanced video editing capabilities, including proficiency in short‑form, social‑first video production, motion graphics, platform‑native editing tools, and third‑party editing tools (Canva, Kapwing, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premiere Pro). In addition to amplifying the work of the EW edit staff, the Social Media Editor will execute social‑first or social‑only original franchises, including short or platform‑specific video series and secure social content from photo shoots, red carpets, and other exclusive opportunities. They should be comfortable conducting interviews both on‑ and off‑camera. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for visual storytelling, a solid understanding of evolving video trends, and can independently conceptualize, shoot, and edit high‑performing video content optimized for each platform.
The Social Media Editor will also support EW partnerships such as award shows, tentpole events, parties, panels and screenings, and should be comfortable capturing and quickly turning around high‑quality video content from those events. The social team works closely with our SEO, growth and other audience analysts to understand and strategize how to expand our audience reach and to help future‑prove the EW brand with younger audiences. The Social Media Editor should also be comfortable with Google Analytics and other similar tools and translating that data into easy‑to‑understand editorial guidance on an hour‑by‑hour or daily basis as needed.
The Social Media Editor will work Sunday‑Thursday and must be able to work independently during the Sunday shift.

50% – Content Creation and Collaboration: Capture, produce, and edit social media content, including events, interviews, on‑camera segments, and short‑form videos; work with editorial, design, and video teams to create engaging, social‑first content.
50% – Publishing: Use analytics to optimize strategy and publish content across social platforms.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements All must be met to be considered.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field or equivalent work experience.
Experience: Minimum 2–5 years of digital and/or social media experience, preferably with at least one major role at a news organization.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proven ability to build and grow audiences for entertainment content via social media, particularly among younger audiences.
Impeccable news judgment, prioritization, writing and editing skills.
Calm under pressure of breaking news.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask.
Strategic thinker who considers analytics before making decisions.
Idea generator who can think of new, fresh ways to package content.
Excellent people skills.
Experience with SEO, content management systems, analytics tools, Photoshop.
Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the EW brand.
