Job Overview

Assistant/Senior Assistant Director of Regional Recruitment - Tri‑State (NYC Metro Region)
The Office of Undergraduate Admission seeks to recruit the most academically and personally distinguished students who will contribute to William & Mary's commitment to inclusive excellence. The successful incumbent will participate in all aspects of the university admission cycle and should be interested in office‑wide recruitment efforts. The position is remote, focused on the Tri‑State/NYC metro region, including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Key Responsibilities

Work with Senior Associate Dean of Admission to develop and execute recruitment plans for assigned territories.
Recommend tactical recruitment strategies aligned with William & Mary's strategic enrollment goals.
Engage with prospective students, parents, school counselors, and alumni through in‑person and virtual information sessions, high school visits, college fairs, emails, and other online programming.
Read and evaluate applications for admission, presenting applications as part of the admission review committee.
Partner with Admission, Marketing, and Alumni staff on regional programs for prospective students, admitted students, and counselors.
Operate from a home‑based office in the Tri‑State region and maintain regular communication with campus colleagues, exercising a high level of autonomy.
Travel periodically to campus for key admission events and training programs.
Represent the university at regional and national professional associations, sharing best practices and market insights.
Additional duties may include: serving on the counselor liaison team; coordinating on‑campus fly‑in programs for school counselors; creating communication campaigns for out‑of‑state counselors; assisting with targeted communication campaigns for the Tri‑State region; coordinating select virtual events for prospective students.
Primary Duties (Percentages)

40% – Outreach and Engagement: represent the university to students, parents, counselors, and alumni, conduct group information sessions, attend college fairs, visit high schools, and respond to inquiries.
30% – Application Review Process: lead the review for regions, conduct holistic reviews, present candidates to the committee, and recommend admissions decisions.
20% – Counselor Liaison & Communication: design and implement regional outreach, coordinate out‑of‑state counselor programs, and facilitate virtual events.
10% – Other Duties: handle additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent education/training.
Experience in a selective liberal arts and sciences college/university setting.
Full‑time experience in higher education or secondary school settings, with knowledge of college programs, majors, admission requirements, and processes.
Proficiency with internet browsers, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to disseminate information to a diverse population.
Organizational skills: prioritize, navigate multiple projects, and maintain high attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with high interpersonal skills.
Senior Assistant Director: five or more years of related professional experience.
Three or more years of direct experience in undergraduate admission and/or secondary‑school counseling or college advising.
Specific familiarity with the Tri‑State region and trends among prospective students.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in college admission, secondary school counseling, or college advising.
Direct experience or familiarity with William & Mary.
Knowledge of the Tri‑State/NYC Metro region.
Conditions of Employment

Significant travel required; driving during evenings and in congested traffic; valid driver’s license required.
Regular overnight travel during fall and spring recruitment seasons.
Periodic evening and weekend work required.

Competitive salary range: $65,000 – $75,000 for Assistant Director; $75,000 – $85,000 for Senior Assistant Director.
