Overview & Responsibilities
The News Desk Supervisor is responsible for managing newsroom assignments, monitoring phones, coordinating logistics, monitoring scanners and social media. You must have a passion for breaking news and seeking out important character-driven stories that matter to the community. You will oversee the assignment editors, build the desk team, provide feedback, coach the staff, and ensure long‑term planning and strong organization.
Basic Qualifications
The ideal candidate must be able to multi‑task and make fast decisions. You will be responsible for dispatching crews to stories and breaking news, using appropriate logistical and journalistic judgment. You will play a key role in identifying stories with emphasis on our key brand points and tracking stories as they develop. You will work with the Assistant News Director and Executive Producer Impacting Communities to develop a deeper understanding of the viewers we serve. You will also develop and grow assignment editors tasked with overseeing incoming editorial around the clock.
Additional Qualifications
Minimum two years of prior television news manager experience is strongly preferred. However, a significant background in print reporting or radio news will be considered. Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
Salary and Benefits
Hiring Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00. Starting pay depends on geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program, and PTO or other benefits as dictated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
