Job Title Public Affairs Project Manager – Detroit Arsenal, Warren, MI
Job Summary Amentum is seeking a qualified candidate for a Public Affairs Project Manager role to support Army Organizations aboard the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, MI. The role will be on-site daily, with up to 5-10% travel, and may include additional duties to support client and contract deliverables.
Responsibilities Review, analyze, and synthesize Congressional, Department of War, Army, and stakeholder communications to provide informed recommendations to leadership.
Develop, implement, and assess comprehensive communication strategies, plans, themes, and key messages aligned with Army policy and mission objectives.
Formulate internal communication themes and messaging to ensure consistent, mission‑focused information flow within the organization.
Plan, coordinate, and execute media events tied to major and mid‑level program activities (e.g., contract awards, fieldings, operational tests).
Drafter press releases; identify and engage media outlets; coordinate with program principals; secure venues; develop talking points and key messages.
Oversee planning, development, and production of Public Affairs products, including news releases, feature stories, photographs, graphics, video products, and digital content.
Respond to media inquiries by coordinating with leadership to develop accurate, timely, and releasable responses; prepare Q&A and background material; secure approvals prior to release.
Lead development and execution of comprehensive communication plans that align the organization’s mission to deliver integrated fires capabilities to the warfighter.
Serve as the principal communication advisor to senior Army leadership, drafting high‑level briefings, communications, and whitepapers.
Cultivate and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including military leadership, defense industry partners, and international allies.
Translate highly technical acquisition data—sensor technologies, interceptors, battle management systems—into policy‑compliant content for external and internal audiences.
Lead rapid communication planning and crisis response efforts related to program performance, national security issues, or reputational threats.
Coordinate external engagements, facilitate site visits, and manage the organization’s digital footprint.
Review and edit artifacts supporting Congressional requests for information (RFIs), information papers, and hearing testimony.
Utilize analytics and sentiment analysis to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts and adjust strategies based on real‑time data.
Required Qualifications 5–15 years of experience in strategic communications, public affairs, or media relations, preferably within the Department of War or a federal government environment.
Strategic messaging, congressional and interagency coordination, and information environment analysis expertise.
Proven ability to work independently and solve complex problems in a fast‑paced environment.
Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to engage personnel at all levels, from junior soldiers to senior leaders and corporate executives.
Thorough understanding of Army logistical and maintenance support structures.
High organizational skills, multi‑tasking ability, and proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Detail‑oriented with excellent technical, verbal, and written communication abilities.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance; Amentum will sponsor a SECRET security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications Senior public affairs officer from the U.S. Army with time served at an O‑5 or higher command.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, public relations, or strategic communication.
Familiarity with the Army’s acquisition and modernization processes.
Compensation $120,000–$160,000 per year (good‑faith estimate; actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws).
