Logitech is the Sweet Spot for people who want their actions to have a positive global impact while having the flexibility to do it in their own way.
Team & Role
We’re looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to be a senior technical leader and decision‑maker on our Video Collaboration product development team. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll drive architecture decisions, resolve complex cross‑functional challenges, and partner with regional engineering leadership to deliver world‑class products. The role requires a broad view of our highly integrated systems that combine cameras, speakers, microphones, displays, dense compute, complex thermals, and precision mechanisms. You’ll partner closely with Industrial Design, Product Management, Operations, and our Taiwan‑based engineering team through the full product lifecycle (from early concept through mass production). This is a leadership role that involves system‑level thinking, tough trade‑off decisions, and cross‑functional alignment.
Responsibilities
- Drive mechanical architecture decisions for complex, highly integrated products balancing thermal, optical, acoustic, and structural requirements against cost, schedule, and manufacturability.
- Partner with regional engineering leadership to drive execution and elevate overall mechanical engineering capability.
- Own system‑level problem solving, identifying issues early, driving root‑cause analysis, and making crisp decisions that keep programs moving forward.
- Collaborate directly with Industrial Design and Product Management to translate product vision into manufacturable mechanical solutions.
- Work hands‑on with Asia‑based manufacturing partners and suppliers on DFM/DFT, tooling development, pilot builds, and production ramp.
- Bridge time zones and cultures, communicating effectively across US and Asia teams, building relationships, and driving alignment.
- Provide technical guidance across mechanical, thermal, and optical domains.
- Represent mechanical engineering in cross‑functional forums: phase gates, design reviews, and executive updates with clarity and confidence.
Qualifications
- 8‑12+ years of mechanical engineering experience in high‑volume electronics product development.
- Demonstrated ability to operate at the system/architecture level, not just component design.
- Understanding of how mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, and acoustic subsystems interact.
- Track record of making decisions and driving cross‑functional alignment in ambiguous situations.
- Deep familiarity with plastics, metals, and fabric design, including injection molding, tooling, die casting, sheet metal, and cosmetic finishing processes.
- Working knowledge of mechanism design (hinges, actuators, PTZ systems, or similar precision mechanisms).
- Experience working directly with Asia‑based (Taiwan, China) contract manufacturers and suppliers through development and production.
- Familiarity with adjacent disciplines: enough EE knowledge for PCB layout constraints, enough thermal knowledge for heat dissipation strategies, and enough optical knowledge for lens/sensor integration challenges.
- Proficiency with Pro/E (Creo), SolidWorks, or equivalent 3D CAD. You’re not the primary CAD operator, but you can dive in when needed.
- Strong communication skills: explain complex technical trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders and advocate effectively for your team’s position.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with thermal management in constrained enclosures (passive cooling, heat pipes, thermal interface materials).
- Experience with optical system integration (lens assemblies, image sensor mounting, optical alignment).
- Background in video conferencing, cameras, audio products, or similar AV devices.
- Experience mentoring or leading engineering teams, even without direct reports.
- Mandarin language skills (helpful but not required).
Compensation
This position offers an annual base salary typically between $160,000 and $210,000. In certain circumstances, higher compensation may be considered based on the business need, candidate experience, and skills.
Location
This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area with regular travel to Taiwan and Asia manufacturing sites (15‑25%). The hybrid work model allows flexibility while maintaining strong connections with our global team.
EEO and Diversity Statement
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, sex, age, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, or on the basis of disability. If you require an accommodation to complete any part of the application process, we will provide assistance.
Benefits Overview
We offer comprehensive and competitive benefits packages and working environments designed to be flexible and support your health and well‑being, including medical, financial, emotional, intellectual, and social benefits that vary by location.
