Job Description
Question Everything is a weekly investigative podcast that explores how truth is buried, distorted and denied—and how people fight to make it matter again. Hosted by Brian Reed and Executive Produced by Robyn Semien, it is a co‑production of Placement Theory and KCRW. Since its launch it has earned a Webby Award, an Ambie Award for Best Reporting, and a Signal Special Achievement Award.
Responsibilities
Report and produce stories – pitch, research, chase interviewees, conduct interviews, collect tape, structure the story, edit, write scripts, and bring to air. Lead production on stories reported by the host or outside contributors, own all stages from idea to publication, assess interviewees, and decide when to kill a story.
Help sustain and evolve Question Everything – generate, pitch, and refine story ideas; attend regular story meetings; participate in group edits; outreach to potential contributors, sources, and guests; contribute to the Substack newsletter, social channels, and other extensions; help shape the vision, sound, and aesthetic of the show.
Operations and administrative support – coordinate with fact‑checkers, mixers, attorneys, and other collaborators; provide episode language and assets to KCRW; schedule and book reporting travel; manage tape and reporting materials; give feedback for improving production processes; travel when needed.
Qualifications
Strong experience as a reporter who can take a story from idea to finished segment.
Excellent narrative audio skills, ability to structure interviews, edit tape, write for the ear, and craft compelling scenes.
Beat experience or deep curiosity in media, tech, law, and politics; sources and investigative leads preferred.
Sharp news judgment and instinct for untold questions.
Proficient in Descript, ProTools, Google Suite, and experience in Reaper a plus.
Experience collaborating with fact‑checkers and lawyers to produce rigorously vetted journalism.
Comfortable working on a small team where members wear multiple hats.
Contract Details
This is a 1099 contractor role lasting at least one year, with the possibility of renewal. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes equity in Placement Theory.
