Primary Purpose
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the assigned subject area to help them fulfill their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social potential. Enable students to develop competencies and skills necessary for academic success and responsible citizenship.
Qualifications
Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or approved certification waiver. Demonstrated competency in assigned subject area. Physical Education teachers must maintain current CPR and AED certification if applicable.
Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of assigned subject area curriculum and instruction. Knowledge of effective instructional practices and classroom management strategies. Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior effectively. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to integrate instructional technology effectively.
Experience: Student teaching, approved internship, or related educational experience preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Planning and Delivery: Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to district curriculum and state standards. Use instructional strategies, materials, and technology appropriate for student needs and learning styles. Differentiate instruction and provide evidence of accommodations for individual student needs. Collaborate with special education and support staff to implement accommodations and interventions. Establish instructional goals and monitor student progress.
Student Growth and Development: Assess student learning using formal and informal methods. Use assessment data to adjust instruction and improve student achievement. Support the academic, emotional, physical, and social development of students. Serve as a positive role model and support district mission and goals. Participate in extracurricular activities and campus events as assigned.
Classroom Management and Organization: Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning. Manage student behavior in accordance with district policies and student code of conduct. Maintain classroom organization, instructional materials, and equipment. Take reasonable precautions to ensure student safety and protection of district property. Compile, maintain, and submit required records and reports.
Communication and Professional Responsibilities: Maintain positive communication with students, parents, colleagues, and community members. Participate in staff development and professional growth opportunities. Attend faculty meetings, committee meetings, and campus events as required. Comply with district, campus, state, and federal policies and procedures. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s) and volunteers.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment. Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent walking and movement throughout instructional settings. Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying of instructional materials and classroom equipment. Environment: Work inside and occasionally outside; regular exposure to noise and student activity. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours as needed.
