Job Description:
The Washington, D.C. office of Holland & Knight is seeking a Senior Public Affairs Advisor to join our Federal Government Affairs Practice Group in support of the Firm’s clients in the emerging technology sector, with a particular focus on issues impacting the semiconductor and microelectronics, artificial intelligence, internet infrastructure, data center, and critical minerals/chemicals/materials industries. We seek candidates with 4-6 years of federal policy experience working with the Congress, the Executive Branch, or the private sector in a commensurate public policy or government affairs capacity. The candidate’s primary role will be to support clients on policy, legislative, regulatory, and advocacy issues.
Core Responsibilities
Assist in the management of daily engagement with clients.
Help lead in the crafting and execution of complex legislative, regulatory, and political strategies to achieve federal policy goals.
Research, draft, and edit policy documents, including one-pagers, hearing memos, talking points, issue briefs, client congressional testimony, legislative tracking documents, and appropriations requests.
Arrange, coordinate, and conduct meetings with Members of Congress, staff and other government officials, both alone and in conjunction with other team members.
Build relationships with key policymakers, staff and other influential federal government stakeholders.
Actively track key policy issues for clients and share key developments with clients along with an analysis of their relevance to the client’s strategy.
Organize and execute fly-in events, including preparing materials, managing attendees, and coordinating event logistics.
Track Congressional and regulatory outreach and prepare agendas and materials for regular client calls and communication.
Help clients prepare for and respond to Congressional hearings, federal agency rulemaking and other federal legislative and regulatory proceedings.
Special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will be familiar with and have strong working relationships with the personal office staff for relevant Members of Congress as well as the professional staff for Congressional committees with jurisdiction over the emerging technology verticals described above; have familiarity with the appropriations process; and have strong relationships with the Executive Branch policymaking community that shapes the emerging technology sector.
Strong preference for candidates familiar with the global semiconductor and microelectronics industry, or commensurate familiarity with the artificial intelligence community.
Familiarity with cybersecurity and/or privacy legislation, regulatory policy and compliance frameworks welcomed.
Ability to work in a team environment.
4-6 years of public policy experience in the federal government, policy or government relations experience in a substantive role related to the verticals above described.
Strong and clear writing skills and the ability to understand and synthesize complex legislative and regulatory issues.
Possess understanding of the House and Senate legislative process and federal regulatory process.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with the wide variety of personalities encountered in governmental and political environments.
Ability to meet competing deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
Strong organizational skills.
High proficiency in a computer network environment, especially with the Microsoft Office applications suite, with special emphasis on PowerPoint curation.
Candidate will become a registered lobbyist under the Lobbying Disclosure Act.

In accordance with applicable Pay Transparency Laws, the pay range for this position is $120,000 – $180,000. This range may not be applicable to other locations. An individual's actual compensation will depend on the individual's qualifications and experience.
